In the 28th century, Valerian and Laureline are special operatives charged with keeping order throughout the human territories.

Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two undertake a mission to Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis where species from across the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures.

At the center of Alpha is a mysterious dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

Notes:
Adapted for the screen and directed by Luc Besson, this 3D sci-fi epic is the most expensive film yet produced and distributed by his EuropaCorp banner.

It is based on the French comic series 'Valérian and Laureline' by Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières. Created in 1967, the comic book has since sold over 10 million copies in 21 languages.

Back in July 2015, Besson showed off the storyboards and concepts to a small group of journalists at Comic-Con. 'Valérian' has been a passion project for him: he was ready to make the movie years ago; however, he tossed the script after seeing 'Avatar', so as to mount a more ground-breaking feature.

The film will be released in July 21, 2017.
