Strange World
© by J. D. Linton
In the mirror, some old stranger
Looks back at me
With my own eyes.
My body's wearing down;
Where did my life go?
My mind is still young.
My time is almost up.
In stillness, I hear my heart
Race with dread fear.
Used to dream of the future.
Now I dream of death
And wake up cold.
I feel betrayed
By the cosmic plan
That shortchanged me.
Look again at the reflection
Of sags and wrinkles
And mottled skin.
It's all a mistake.
That person in the mirror
Cannot be me.
