No Time To Say Goodbye

We stood face to face;
time stood still.
Your eyes searched mine
for an answer.
Somehow we knew--
you and I.

Then you went your way
and I went mine,
but my thoughts couldn’t rest...
Somehow I knew
that we had parted too soon.
I’m sorry--
there was no time
to say good-bye.

Even though our lives
never crossed again,
they were forever intertwined.
Time could not erase
what my eyes had seen.
It was like looking into mine.
As brief as you came into my life,
you left without a word.
I felt the pain
the moment you died;
my heart stopped beating
though it cried and cried.
We parted too soon.
I’m sorry--
there was no time
to say goodbye.
