Beauty
© by Emily Burleson
Red,
red is the color of cherries,
and lipstick,
and blood.
Blue,
blue is the color of the ocean,
of the seas,
of tears.
White,
white is the color of the clouds of a mid-day sky,
and of surrender.
Black,
black is the color of smoke,
and war,
of death,
and chaos.
How mighty is the fire that burns cities,
How magnificent the power that turns men to dust,
But not everything is always as it seems,
Does beauty alone really make something just?
Red,
red is the color of pain,
of love,
of freedom.
White,
white is the color of truth,
of dreams,
and justice.
Black,
black is the color of dirt covered hands that have worked all day,to provide.
Blue,
blue is the color of sweat and tears of joy,
after a long hard battle,
ending in victory.
How marred the flesh of those who for us fought,
How grim the face that sings our battle songs,
But not everything is always what you'd think,
Does the lack of beauty really make something wrong?
