Starfish AIDS Awareness Event
The World AIDS Day - Cape Town (South Africa) - December 1, 2004
I
have decided that the few of us on Starfish will
keep on doing the HANDS-ON adventure, be it for
orphans, mothers and kids with AIDS, street kids,
too.

Our
experience is teaching us to physically touch
and act, thus being much more effective. The
direct and on the spot approach is the most honest,
also due to the nature of my profession. The clown
coming to town. And
awareness about all of this is so much important!
People
after a while - people who are not directly affected,
one way or the other, by the HIV virus - tend
to forget that the problem is still rampant and
is cruelly taking its daily toll.
This
is why I decided, on this commemoration day, to
organize a VERY visible initiative.
After the 'go-ahead' obtained from the Cape Town
Harbour Authorities, 32 red ribbons were made
and it took a few weeks to have them completed
and hung by the harbour's workers on big cranes.Something never seen. But
that awfully helped in ringing a loud bell there,
in the core of the fight against AIDS.
All
across the globe, through important news agencies
and newspapers, this initiative has been reported
with significant emphasis:
